The International Coalition against Impunity (ICAI – HOKOK) is an independent international organization that works to defend the rights of people worldwide and human dignity and advance the cause of human rights for all.
ICAI HOKOK was established and duly registered in Spain, in 2008.
The lawyers, members of ICAI HOKOK, have made all their efforts to establish the organization in its current legal form, aiming at defending Palestine, its people and its land, in particular, as well as the most oppressed people in the whole world. Therefore, ICAI HOKOK was registered in Spain where its main office is located. It has, as well, activists and supporters all over the world.
The organization has 170 permanent members; 85 lawyers, 30 journalists, 5 experts in weapons and wars issues, and 50 members belonging to different professions including doctors, engineers and painters. However, the organization joins more than 5000 non-permanent members from around the world.
The organization’s revenue comes from its members (no financial support comes from public or private authorities).
Being a coalition of human rights solicitors, campaigners and social justice advocates that seek to challenge a culture of growing impunity and accountability worldwide, all the members of ICAI HOKOK are prominent attorneys from several European countries, who have proven historical records of success fighting impunity, corruption and any form of violations to human rights, in addition to the Chief Officer, who’s Lebanese.
It is worthy to note that the coalition does not solely rely on reading and analyzing current prevalent news of human rights’ violations, but we have trained investigators, reporters and writers who are our main channel of acquiring evidence-based leads necessary to file lawsuits against violators.
Our experts visit the sites where incidents were reported taking place, document viable testimonials from the witnesses (in the form of photos, written, audio and video reports, etc…). This is the grounds we rely on when filing lawsuits at international courts of justice, or calling for a certain cause, for we never discriminate any religion, nationality, race or color, as much as we never spare any offender, no matter how commonly or socially superior s/he is, be it an individual, a company, a whole government or a group of governments.
Equipped with an understanding of how International Humanitarian Law is repeatedly disregarded by some state and non-state bodies, and with an ability to frame their discourse and narratives in the context of IHL, ICAI HOKOK’s human rights defenders and community activists are now in a much stronger case in which to campaign for justice and equality of the international community.
ICAI HOKOK has filed several prominent lawsuits before the International Criminal Court at The Hague, Holland, the Belgian Courts, the European Court of Human Rights as well as other international courts against over 1,000 defendants. Amongst them are complaints pertaining to the war crimes, crimes against humanity and genocide committed in Palestine, Lebanon, Bahrain, Syria, Turkey, etc.
Our ultimate mission is to accelerate a process that challenges impunity, and seeks to build societies -and citizenry- where justice, equality and respect for the human rights of all are observed.
